Why DTP?

Posted on March 29, 2021

Perhaps some of you are thinking, why would I need #DTP (Desktop Publishing)?

A bad and messy design of a document is not appealing and will not give a good first impression. DTP plays a significant role in improving the look and feel of a document and making it more attractive to the target audience. This is achieved by using a DTP software (like Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word and others) for the production and designing of a wide range of publications like:

  • Newspapers and magazines
  • Books/e-books
  • Brochures, posters and flyers
  • Banners

Desktop publishing also goes hand in hand with translation and localization services (Multilingual desktop publishing). Let's say you have a brochure that you would like to translate into several languages, then you will need multilingual DTP to:

  • Make sure the text is well prepared before translation - to avoid for example segmentation issues etc. in the target version.
  • Make sure all the text fits properly into the layout after translation - The target language text can either expand or contract which affects the original layout.
  • Make sure the font is adapted to the new language (for example Asian languages) and also the direction of the text in case you are translating into Arabic for example.
  • Localize images and other visual aspects in the document.

In other words - You need DTP to make your documents and translations look beautiful and professional in any language! The good news is that the amount of desktop publishing software are constantly growing and many of them are free and others are available for subscription!

TTS NORDIKA can help you out with this - and more!
