In the early 2000s, the translation industry was growing fast. Companies were localizing content into more languages, more formats, and at a pace nobody had seen before. Translation itself was evolving — specialized agencies, professional linguists, and increasingly sophisticated CAT tools were raising the bar for linguistic quality.
But the technical side of the process was being treated as an afterthought. Layout adaptation? Handed to graphic designers who had never typeset Arabic. File preparation? Done ad hoc by project managers already stretched thin. Quality assurance on the final formatted files? Often skipped entirely under deadline pressure. The result: localized documents that looked broken. Text overflowing frames. Fonts that couldn't render. Layouts that fell apart the moment the text changed direction. The words were translated, but the documents weren't finished.

A Swedish entrepreneur working deep inside the translation industry saw this gap clearly. He believed that the technical and graphical side of translation projects deserved its own dedicated practice — not a department inside a translation agency, not a freelancer hired per project, but a standalone studio with genuine expertise in multilingual DTP. In 2006, that conviction became a company: Translator Technical Solutions (TTS), founded in Viña del Mar, Chile.
Over 20 years later, that founding insight hasn't changed. We're still doing one thing — and we're still getting better at it.
